A sports carnival without a reliable PA is a sports carnival run on shouting. Clear announcements keep the program moving and the students focused.
School athletics carnivals, swimming carnivals and cross country events run on communication. Results need to be called immediately. The next event group needs to be marshalled before the previous one finishes. Music needs to keep the atmosphere going between races. All of this relies on a PA that works clearly in the open air, at the pool or on the oval.
The right carnival PA is not the loudest one. It is the one that sounds clear from fifty metres away when the wind picks up and three hundred students are cheering.
Outdoor sound, done properly
Enchant Entertainment is a Perth family run business that has been delivering PA for school sports carnivals since 2018. Our standard carnival setup uses a battery powered PA so there are no extension leads across the oval and no dependence on a distant power point. Based in Kwinana, we service schools across Perth metro from Joondalup to Mandurah.
Pricing has two parts. Operators at $90 per hour and equipment from $300. A half day carnival lands around $480. A full day athletics or swimming carnival typically costs between $660 and $720. No hidden costs, no deposit for school bookings.
A simple four step process for your school sports carnival PA.
Send your carnival date, venue, carnival type and expected duration. Quote back within 48 hours.
We confirm PA position, power access options and mic requirements based on your venue layout.
We arrive before the first event, set up the PA and test the wireless mic with your announcer.
Operator manages sound all day. Music between events, clear announcements, pack down after the final result.
From oval athletics to poolside swimming and cross country finish lines, we match the PA setup to your event.
Track and field events on the school oval. Battery powered PA positioned for maximum oval coverage. Wireless mic for the announcer at the results table. Music playback between events to keep the atmosphere going.
Poolside PA at the school aquatic centre or a public pool. Reverberant indoor or outdoor pool acoustics handled by speaker placement and microphone processing. Clear lane and race announcements throughout the day.
Battery PA at the start and finish line with wireless mic for the starter and finish announcer. Compact, self-contained setup that can be moved to the finish area at the end of the event if needed.
High energy relay events with constant announcements, results calls and house cheer sections. Music at higher volume between heats suits the competitive atmosphere. Wireless mic with long range for the track announcer.
Combined athletics, swimming and field events across multiple locations. We plan the PA positioning across the different event zones and ensure announcements reach the relevant areas without overlap.
Inter-school athletics or swimming carnivals with larger crowds and a longer program. We scale the PA output and add a second speaker position if needed to cover a wider spectator area or multiple lanes.
Every school sports carnival PA hire includes these as standard.

Outdoor sound is a different challenge to indoor. Wind, distance and ambient noise all work against clarity. Here is how we handle it.
Self-contained battery powered speakers that run for 6 to 8 hours on a full charge. No mains power required. No extension leads across the oval. Positioned for maximum coverage of the spectator and event areas.
Professional wireless handheld microphone for the announcer. Long range transmission so the announcer can move around the results table and finish line area without losing signal. Processed for outdoor clarity.
High quality music playback from USB, phone or laptop. Our operator manages the volume and fades the music out cleanly for each announcement. School-curated playlists, Spotify and USB drives all work.
Speaker placement for outdoor events is critical. We position speakers to cover the spectator area and announcement zone without wasting output in open air. Angled down toward the audience rather than firing into open sky.
Dedicated EQ and processing for outdoor speech clarity. The mid-range frequencies that carry speech intelligibility are prioritised. Wind noise suppression applied to the wireless mic to keep announcements clear even on a breezy day.
Spare batteries for the wireless microphone and a fully charged backup battery for the PA. Six to eight hours is the rated battery life, but we carry backup power to every full day carnival so there is no risk of the PA going flat before the final event.
An indoor PA bounces sound off walls and ceilings, filling the room with reflected sound. Outdoor PA has none of this. The sound leaves the speaker and dissipates in open air. To cover a large oval effectively, the PA needs to be more powerful and the speakers need to be aimed correctly, down at the audience rather than horizontally into the distance.
Wind is the other factor. Even a light Perth breeze in Term 1 can make a microphone sound muddy. We apply wind suppression processing to the wireless mic and recommend the announcer hold the mic close when the wind picks up. Simple and effective.
Finally, school ovals usually have no convenient power point. Battery PA solves this completely. The PA sits at the announcer table, fully self-contained, with no cables for students to trip over. It is the practical choice for almost every school athletics carnival in Perth.

Sports carnivals run to tight schedules. A PA problem mid-carnival costs time and disrupts the program. Our team keeps it simple and reliable.
We use battery PA as our default for outdoor carnivals. No power cable runs across the oval, no dependence on a distant power point, no tripping hazards. Self-contained and positioned exactly where it needs to be.
Our team has set up PA for athletics carnivals across Perth since 2018. We know how to position speakers for oval coverage, how to process mics for wind and how to balance music with announcements in open air.
A wireless mic battery dying mid-carnival is the most common PA failure at school sports events. We carry spare batteries for mics, a backup PA unit for full day events and spares for every cable and connector.
Family owned and Kwinana based since 2018. Fast access to all southern suburbs, Rockingham, Fremantle and the CBD. Low travel time keeps costs down for nearby schools.

Common sound terms for school sports carnivals, explained simply.
A portable PA system powered by an internal rechargeable battery rather than mains power. Essential for outdoor athletics carnivals where there is no convenient power access on the oval. Runs for 6 to 8 hours per charge and requires no extension leads.
A microphone that transmits via radio frequency to a receiver connected to the PA. No cable between the announcer and the PA unit. Allows the announcer to move around the results table and finish line area freely. Range is typically 50 to 100 metres outdoors.
How far a PA speaker can project sound clearly outdoors. Outdoor throw is significantly shorter than indoor range because there are no walls to reflect the sound. A speaker that fills a school hall may only cover half an oval when used outside without the right placement.
Electronic processing applied to a microphone signal to reduce the low frequency noise caused by wind moving across the capsule. Without wind handling, a breezy day creates a loud rumble through the PA that masks the announcer’s voice.
How clearly words can be understood from a PA system. For a carnival PA, intelligibility is more important than loudness. A clear announcement at moderate volume is more useful than a loud but muddy one. Achieved through correct EQ, speaker placement and microphone technique.
Automatically or manually lowering the music volume when an announcement is made. Our operator ducks the music before every announcement so the results call is heard clearly and the music comes back up immediately after. Simple but important for a professional carnival broadcast.
The acoustic environment at a swimming pool, typically very reverberant due to hard concrete surfaces, water and a large enclosed or semi-enclosed space. Requires different microphone processing and speaker positioning compared to an open oval.
The setup phase before an event, when equipment is brought in, positioned and tested. For a carnival, bump in happens before the first event of the day. The operator arrives early enough to set up, test the wireless mic with the announcer and confirm the music playback before students arrive.
Our family run team is based in Kwinana and covers school sports carnivals across the entire Perth metro area and into the South West.
